How to Get Feedback on the Draft of Your Reports

Follow these instructions, in order to gain feedback (and a grade) on the draft of your report:

FYI: In-class essay participation activity prompt

The following is the prompt you will answer on Friday, Dec 09 for the in-class essay participation activity:

Think of this self-evaluation as an analysis of your class participation over the course of the entire semester.
1. How did you do, did you improve, and what grade do you think you deserve with regard to class participation?
2. Your essay should demonstrate a clear awareness of the various ways to earn class participation credit.

It should identify the extent and quality of your various contributions in and out of class, offering specific examples in support of its claims, and it should have a clear thesis stating what grade you think you are on track to earn.

NOTE: The in-class essay participation activity will be composed 1) in-class, and 2) submitted via email, 3) the subject line of the email needs to state Last Name, Section, A&P Essay (e.g., Klein, J, A&P Essay).

Salience in Advertising

I saw this while stumbling around on the internet and thought it was interesting how it relates to the class.

I think it is an interesting display of salience in action. The blind man's first message, when you look at it, doesn't have very much salience because most people can't imagine what it is like to be blind. However, once his message is changed by the woman, the salience increases dramatically because, while most people don't relate strongly to blindness, they can easily relate to having a beautiful day outside that none of them can see, or they can easily imagine it.

It is interesting to note that the company that made this video, PurpleFeather, is an 'online content specialist', which seems to mean they specialize in creating online communciation. They are a company whose primary goal is to create salience for an audience, and this video was a great presentation of the concept of giving out the same message but in a different way in order to create salience.
